The 2019 Honda Pilot is a mid-generation redesign for the popular Honda SUV. Sometimes these redesigns are cursory affairs with a couple of nips and tucks, but they’ve really pulled out all the stops this time. The exterior redesign renders the Honda Pilot more rugged-looking than before. That impression his helped along by new 20-inch wheels and a more pronounced skid plate. Where it used to look similar to the Honda Odyssey, it now looks more like a traditional SUV.
Even though it’s the same engine under the hood, the upper-trim nine speed transmission is retooled for more assured shifting than before. Front-wheel drive remains standard, with optional AWD that might make you thankful for the higher ground clearance. You can either seat up to eight people, or take advantage of an enormous 83.9 cubic feet of cargo space that’s accessed by a new hands-free lift gate.
Tech fans will find some great features on offer, too. The Honda Sensing® Safety Suite comes to the LX trim and is now available on all trims. Upgrade to the new infotainment system and in addition to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, you can also take advantage of the 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot (which can be updated wirelessly).
The Honda Pilot is also more family friendly thanks to new features it inherits from the Honda Odyssey. CabinTalk lets your passengers hear you without you having to raise your voice, and the CabinControl app lets rear-seat passengers control infotainment features through their smartphones.
